Abstract: The gold-catalyzed addition of phenols, alcohols, and carboxylic acids to 2,2,2-trifluoroethyl-substituted alkynes is reported. The reaction is highly regioselective, once again illustrating the strong directing effect of the trifluoromethyl group in gold-catalyzed additions to alkynes through its inductive influence.
