Use of Internal Brace for the Surgical Management of the “Baby Stener” Lesion of the Radial Collateral Ligament to the Small Finger

Year: 2026
Type: article
Study design: Case Report
Abstract: We present a case of a traumatic isolated radial collateral ligament injury at the small finger metacarpophalangeal joint, a rare injury that warrants surgical intervention when associated with a Stener-like lesion in which the torn collateral ligament buttonholes through the radial sagittal band at the metacarpophalangeal joint. This interposition prevents healing of the collateral ligament much like the traditional Stener lesion of the thumb, and early recognition and treatment may prevent chronic pain, instability, and functional impairment. Here, we describe a case report and our surgical technique for repairing this injury.
