Abstract: The objective of this article is to analyze the life story of the historian and Zen Buddhist monk Eduardo Basto de Albuquerque, relating it to the development of academic research and the practice of Buddhism in Brazil. For this purpose, we established epistemological dialogues with the works of Pierre Bourdieu (2006), Giovanni Levi (2006) and Jean-François Sirinelli (2003) regarding the act of writing a biography of an intellectual individual. As sources, we used interviews, academic publications, newspaper columns and other documents that indicate Albuquerque's relationship with Buddhism from an academic and personal point of view. As a result, we seek to demonstrate how Albuquerque's trajectory indicates the paths of belief and scientific research on Buddhism in Brazil
