AUTONOMOUS DEVELOPER : Case study of game development using generative AI models with minimal human interference
Year: 2026
Type: dissertation
Abstract: With ever-evolving AI systems, game development has been permanently transformed. What originally took human developers and artists many hours to make, modern AI models can complete the same task in a fraction of the time. With such figures, it would be easy to assume that generative AI can completely take over game development from human hands. This notion is put to the test, examining the capabilities of current generative AI tools in the role of an autonomous developer and analyzing where and why human intervention is still necessary in a game development pipeline. The results show a big discrepancy in “perceived” AI efficiency vs its practical application; with humans still holding the keys to mainstream game productions.
