Recovery from Childhood Illness as a Window into Behavioral Emergence During Early Development: Toward a Conceptual Framework for Scientific Investigation
Year: 2026
Type: preprint
Abstract: This manuscript presents a conceptual framework proposing that recovery from naturally occurring childhood illness may provide an observational window through which continuously developing neurodevelopmental capacities become durably recognizable through behavior. Rather than proposing a novel biological mechanism, the framework distinguishes continuous neurodevelopment from the timing of behavioral recognition and integrates concepts from developmental neuroscience, developmental psychology, neuroimmunology, systems neuroscience, and the philosophy of scientific inference. The manuscript is intended to generate empirically testable hypotheses and encourage prospective interdisciplinary investigation.
