Haven Barn, Monk's Walk, Buriton, Hampshire, GU31 5RT: An Archaeological Monitoring and Recording Report
Year: 2026
Type: report
Abstract: The aim of the archaeological monitoring and recording was to monitor groundwork for the proposed renovation of the existing barn into one residential dwelling and investigate and record archaeological resources that were identified, taking account of the date, nature, extent, bio-archaeological and palaeo-environmental potential of the resources. A consistent sequence of deposition was observed cross site with the upper layer of the barn floor made up of a topsoil like material overlaying the natural geology of sandstone and sedimentary clay at 0.30m B.G.L. The monitoring and recording at haven barn revealed very limited archaeological material, namely three undated features (likely pits) of unknown provenance and use. No human remains were observed from the neighbouring churchyard were observed. Works on the site are concluded, and it is unlikely any further work would be required unless further excavations were planned near to the churchyard walls.
