A Study on the Evaluation of Museum Lighting and Acoustic Environments Considering the Diversity of Sensory Characteristics

Abstract: To promote an inclusive society, reasonable accommodations are mandated. Yet, given individual sensory differences, uniform environmental adjustments are challenging. Thus, sensory maps enabling predictive coping are essential. In this study, we assessed subjective and physical measures of sound and light and classifying research participants by AASP profiles to identify barriers overlooked in average evaluations. Noise evaluations matched noise levels; brightness matched log illuminance differences between adjacent rooms; glare concerns corresponded to UGR; and color concerns corresponded to correlated color temperature at the eye level, distinguishing sensory-sensitive individuals from others. These findings guide the creation of universally accessible sensory maps.
