The Norm of Harmony as the Criterion of System Viability

Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: This paper examines the Norm of Harmony as the universal criterion of system viability within the framework of Vitology as an interdisciplinary research program centered on the concept of viability. The Norm of Harmony is understood as the dynamic state in which the fundamental mechanisms of viability—including Awareness (Aw), Coordination (Con), Coordinated Systemic Integrity (CON), feedback, self-regulation, regeneration, adaptation, integration, and emergent properties—operate coherently as an integrated whole. Unlike approaches that define harmony primarily as balance, equilibrium, or aesthetic order, Vitology considers the Norm of Harmony to be the universal criterion determining the capacity of systems to preserve integrity, reduce systemic noise, regenerate after disturbances, adapt to changing conditions, and continuously increase viability. Particular attention is devoted to the relationship between the Norm of Harmony and the Integral Model of System Viability (Aw → Con → CON), Systemic Noise (Noise), regeneration, and the continuous development of viable systems. Keywords Vitology, Norm of Harmony, harmony, system viability, criterion of system viability, Awareness, Aw, Coordination, Con, Coordinated Systemic Integrity, CON, Integral Model of System Viability, Systemic Noise, Noise, feedback, self-regulation,
