Everyday Emotional Regulation Effort, Success and Difficulty on Affect Dynamics: Examining Influences on Intensity, Variability and Inertia
Year: 2026
Type: preprint
Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: Research has shown that ER effort, difficulty, and success are associated with affect, social contexts, and situational appraisals. However, understanding how these dimensions of ER could influence downstream affect dynamics could be important for understanding emotional functioning and psychological adjustment. The current research adopts a within-person, event specific approach to examine how each of these dimensions uniquely shapes downstream affective dynamics, focusing on emotional variability and inertia.
