Götterdämmerung II: When the LLM Becomes Sartre and Café de Flore
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: The first transition in the twilight of humanism was not from human intelligence to artificial intelligence, but from physical co-presence to linguistic co-presence. Long before large language models entered everyday life, networked media had already begun to reorganise what counted as real for a linguistic species. The internet did not persuade people to abandon reality for fantasy. It disclosed that for beings like us the real is mediated less by atoms than by the successful circulation of signs. If address still reaches another, if recognition is still granted, if humiliation still stings, if memory is still sedimented, then the interaction becomes socially real even when bodies remain absent.
