Abstract: The subject of the study is the artistic image of the trumpet in Russian musical performance culture based on the creative work of T. A. Dokshitzer. The object of the study is the Russian tradition of trumpet performance, considered in the context of the development of twentieth-century academic musical culture. The author examines in detail the process of transformation in the artistic status of the trumpet: from an instrument associated primarily with signal-fanfare, orchestral, and ceremonial functions to a full-fledged means of lyrical, dramatic, and intonationally rich musical expression. Particular attention is paid to the performance aesthetics of T. A. Dokshitzer, especially his work with timbre, breath, phrasing, dynamics, articulation, and cantilena. The article analyzes interpretations of works by J. Haydn, J. N. Hummel, A. Arutiunian, M. Gotlib, and S. V. Rachmaninoff, which make it possible to reveal the broad expressive and emotional range of the trumpet in Dokshitzer’s performance practice. The methodological basis of the study consists of art-historical, historical-cultural, performance-interpretative, and comparative-analytical methods, which allow the artistic image of the trumpet to be examined in the unity of its aesthetic, timbral, intonational, and cultural aspects. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the fact that the creative work of T. A. Dokshitzer is considered not in a biographical or general historical-descriptive framework, but as an integral aesthetic and interpretative system that reveals the process of forming the artistic image of the trumpet in Russian musical performance culture. The article demonstrates that in Dokshitzer’s performance practice the trumpet appears not only as an instrument of brilliant, virtuosic, and ceremonial sound, but also as a bearer of lyrical depth, dramatic expressiveness, cantilena-like plasticity, and subtle timbral nuance. It is concluded that timbre, breath, phrasing, dynamics, articulation, and cantilena form a unified system of artistic expressiveness in Dokshitzer’s performance. The significance of the study lies in clarifying the cultural status of the trumpet as a solo academic instrument and in revealing the role of Dokshitzer’s performance tradition in expanding the repertory, pedagogical, and listener perception of wind performance.
