Timestamp-Based Quantum Key Distribution
Year: 2025
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: Time synchronization is an important resource for various fields such as communications, finance, power systems, scientific research, and aerospace. Time synchronization based on quantum technologies holds the potential to achieve an order-of-magnitude improvement in precision compared to existing time synchronization solutions, thereby meeting the growing demands for time synchronization across these domains. Quantum key distribution (QKD), as an application of quantum mechanics in information security, addresses the shortcomings of traditional encryption methods in resisting quantum computing. However, QKD is often accompanied by complex post-processing procedures and limited key generation rates. This paper proposes a novel quantum key distribution paradigm based on quantum time synchronization (QTS), leveraging the high synchronization between communicating parties and the high-precision timestamps of periodic key distribution events, i.e., entanglement distribution in this paper, to achieve an unprecedentedly high key generation rate while maintaining inherent robustness toward various attacks.
