Parent–Adolescent Discrepancy in Parental Monitoring and Adolescent Executive and Attention Functioning: A Pilot Analysis Within the PlaySmart Trial

Year: 2026
Type: preprint
Abstract: Prospective secondary analysis of dyadic data from the PlaySmart RCT (Fiellin, PI; NIDA HEAL). We test whether parent–adolescent disagreement about parental monitoring at baseline predicts adolescent everyday executive and attention difficulty (LEAF) at three months. For each dyad we compute adolescent-minus-parent monitoring, split dyads into tertiles (parent-higher, agreement, parent-lower), and regress LEAF on the two disagreement groups with agreement as the reference. Secondary outcome: opioid-misuse risk cognitions. Exploratory: race/ethnicity moderation. N ≈ 40 dyads, so this is an exploratory pilot; estimates are preliminary.
