Abstract: The present study aimed to investigate the relationship between emotional intelligence and life skills among university students in the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It also sought to examine differences in emotional intelligence between university students in Egypt and their counterparts in Saudi Arabia, as well as differences in life skills between students in the two countries. In addition, the study explored differences in emotional intelligence according to the variables of gender and academic specialization, and differences in life skills according to the same variables. Furthermore, the study examined the possibility of predicting emotional intelligence through university students’ responses to the Life Skills Scale. The main study sample consisted of 390 male and female university students enrolled in universities in Egypt and Saudi Arabia, while the standardization sample consisted of 130 male and female students. Participants’ ages ranged from 18 to 25 years, with a mean age of 21.08 years and a standard deviation of 1.33. The study employed the Emotional Intelligence Scale for University Students, developed by Shaimaa Mohamed Ismail Ali (2023), and the Life Skills Scale for University Students, developed by the first researcher. The results revealed a positive and statistically significant correlation at the 0.01 level between emotional intelligence and both the dimensions and total score of life skills. The findings also indicated no statistically significant differences between the mean scores of students in the Arab Republic of Egypt and those in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on the Emotional Intelligence Scale. Similarly, there were no statistically significant differences between Egyptian and Saudi university students on any of the life skills sub-dimensions or on the total score of the scale. The results further confirmed that gender was the most influential factor affecting both emotional intelligence and life skills among university students in Egypt and Saudi Arabia, whereas academic specialization and the interaction between gender and specialization did not exert a significant effect. Finally, the findings highlighted the significant role of emotional intelligence, particularly its social dimension—in the development of life skills among university students.
