Data associated with the publication: Temporally segregated functions for Gfi1 in the development and maintenance of direction selectivity in the vertebrate retina

Year: 2026
Type: dataset
Abstract: In the mouse retina, direction-selective retinal ganglion cell (DSGC) subtypes are quite diverse, but little is known about the genetic programs required to generate this diversity. Moreover, it is unclear whether transcription factors that specify distinct DSGC subtypes play additional roles in their maintenance or maturation. Here, removal of the transcription factor Gfi1 at different development stages identifies a shared early requirement for Gfi1 in the specification of two vertically-tuned DSGC subtypes, and distinct late roles for Gfi1 in the maintenance of one subtype and the dendritic elaboration of the other subtype. The dataset contains information related to the paper “Temporally segregated functions for Gfi1 in the development and maintenance of direction selectivity in the vertebrate retina”. It includes: 1. Figure source data, 2. Confocal images of all retinas and brain analyzed, and 3. Quantification of all data.
