Impact of Campus Involvement on Depression Levels of Undergraduate Students at Providence College

Abstract: Conclusions:• Our quantitative results indicate that there is a non-significant correlation between race and depression levels found from the PHQ-9 scale.• The Spearman's test run between the CMMN scale and the PHQ-9 did not show significant association between depression and sense of belonging. However, our qualitative results suggest some correlation.• While our quantitative results suggest that there is a non-significant relationship between depression and involvement, our qualitative results indicate that students who are involved build stronger connections and find an outlet or escape from stressors.• Additional non-significant correlations found from our quantitative results between the PHQ-9 include ethnicity, activity, and gender.• However, there seems to be a significant correlation between PHQ-9 and males as compared to a non-significant correlation between females and the PHQ-9. Future Work:For future work, we would organize a longitudinal study that looks at undergraduate's involvement over the time they are at an institution. This way we can get a better idea of how depression and involvement are correlated. We would also look to get a more diverse sample.References Bowe, K.
