Algorithmic Textuality as Metaverse Narrative Infrastructure: A Transhumanist Study of AI-Generated Literary Systems

Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: The rapid advancement of generative artificial intelligence is reshaping the foundations of literary production, challenging established understandings of textuality, authorship and creativity. While existing scholarship has largely focused on computational creativity and machine authorship, limited attention has been given to the role of AI-generated literature within emerging metaverse ecosystems. This study investigates how AI-generated literary systems function as an early narrative and communicative infrastructure of the metaverse by proposing the concept of algorithmic textuality, wherein texts are understood not as fixed artifacts but as dynamic, probabilistic and adaptive systems generated through computational processes. Employing a qualitative interpretive methodology grounded in computational hermeneutics, the study analyses a corpus of AI-generated novels alongside contemporary generative AI narrative platforms through close reading, narrative coding and pattern analysis. The findings reveal that AI-generated narratives are characterized by fragmentation, non-linearity, semantic instability, distributed authorship and adaptive narrative tendencies that challenge conventional assumptions of narrative coherence, intentionality and human-centred creativity. The study further demonstrates that these narratives operate as networked communicative systems capable of personalization, interaction and continuous meaning production. Consequently, AI-generated literature is positioned as a precursor to metaverse-native storytelling, where narrative functions as an adaptive communication infrastructure connecting human users, intelligent systems and digital environments. The article contributes a theoretical framework for understanding literary production in computational cultures and advances metaverse studies by identifying narrative generation as a foundational layer of future intelligent and interconnected cultural ecosystems.
