Year: 2026
Type: report
Abstract: Magnetometry Survey using bespoke MS system Magnitude Surveys was commissioned to assess the subsurface archaeological potential of c. 8ha of arable land near Newball, Lincolnshire. A fluxgate gradiometer survey was successfully completed across the survey area. Anomalies of archaeological, agricultural and undetermined origins have been detected. Archaeological activity has been identified in the form of ring ditches and rectilinear enclosures. Prolonged exploitation of the landscape for agricultural purposes is evidenced by the identification of ridge and furrow ploughing regimes and field-drainage systems. Anomalies of an undetermined origin have also been identified for which an archaeological provenance cannot be discounted. Magnetic disturbance was limited to a single section of field boundary where more subtle anomalies may be masked.
