Consistent fantasy is reality 1

Abstract: In this article, I am going to recall some memories I collected between 2019 and 2023; this article will follow the footsteps of a doctoral candidate who migrated from her home (Global South) to the West (so-called Australia) to undertake a practice-based PhD. By doing so, I aim to explore “difference” (racial, gender, sexual, or class-based) as the space of radical possibility whose capaciousness can expand even further under impossible circumstances. This does not intend to diminish the violence of impossibility enforced by the normative (institutional) structures, borders, and exclusionary rules and regulations or unsee the violence created by its naturalization, rationalization and refusal. But as Marquis Bey reminds, “our bodies have come to be the site that suffers oppressive forces because that is precisely how oppressive forces wish to construct our subjectivities” (2022, p. 3). Therefore, instead of narrating a journey of a victim/ised migrant, heroic/ised migrant, or heroic-victim migrant, I will be interested in our “figurative capacity” (Snorton, Citation2017, p. 59) and see how we can use our corporeal and affective labor (embodied knowledge) to “notice” and “breach” the colonial and (neoliberal) plantocratic logics which continuously and repetitively “depict our presently ecocidal and genocidal world as normal and unalterable” (McKittrick, Citation2021, pp. 2, 3; emphasis mine).
