Tasmanian myxomycetes and associated invertebrates in a drying climate
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: Fifteen years of photographing myxomycetes and associated invertebrates in northern Tasmania has captured beetles (Coleoptera), springtails (Collembola), flies (Diptera), snails (Gastropoda) and ants (Hymenoptera) feeding on plasmodia and spores. The frequency of these observations in Northern Tasmania and reported elsewhere confirms that myxomycetes provide an important food source for many animals. The woody debris where many of these interactions occur are likely to become less able to support myxomycetes and associated invertebrates in a rapidly changing climate.
