Reduced sensitization over time to parabens 16% mix in North-eastern Italy, 1997–2023
Year: 2026
Type: article
Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: Despite their widespread use, parabens are some of the least allergenic preservatives. This multicentre study investigated prevalence of sensitization to parabens mix 16% among 44 446 consecutive patients patch-tested for suspected allergic contact dermatitis during 1997–2023 in North-eastern Italy. The reducing time-trend prevalence of paraben sensitization most likely reflected progressive lower use of this preservative in recent years, as a result of European Union legislation reducing parabens content in cosmetics since 2009.
