Type: preprint
Abstract: FINDING: E8 root system yields golden ratio via eigenvalue of Cartan matrix, with 60-fold symmetry in quasicrystal projection. MATH: - E8 Cartan matrix eigenvalue: λ = φ² = φ + 1 = (1+√5)/2 + 1 = (3+√5)/2 ≈ 2.6180339887… - φ = (1+√5)/2 ≈ 1.6180339887… - φ² = φ + 1 ≈ 2.6180339887… - 240 minimal vectors of E8 lattice (Gosset 4_21 polytope) - 60-fold rotational symmetry emerges in 2D projection (icosidodecahedral/quasicrystalline pattern) CONNECTION: - Golden ratio φ appears as eigenvalue of E8 Cartan matrix, linking exceptional Lie algebra to geometric harmony. - 60-fold symmetry = 2×30 = 6×10 = base-60 related (sexagesimal system), also 60 = 5×12, ties to icosahedral symmetry. - Ratios 0.618 (1/φ), 1.618 (φ), 2.618 (φ²) are all present in E8 root system geometry. - Quasicrystal projection from 8D to 2D yields Penrose-like tiling with golden ratio scaling.
