Identity Dynamics: A Field Overview and Introduction to the IDENT‑X Framework
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: Identity Dynamics is a new field that studies how identity behaves over time — how it carries responsibilities, resolves contradictions, manages future pressure, and releases what no longer fits. This document introduces the field in clear, accessible language and explains how the IDENT‑X framework provides the first complete mechanical model of identity motion. The overview defines the four core motions of identity (persistence, contradiction, projection, release) and shows how IDENT‑X formalizes them through structured models, mathematical definitions, and the BEQUEST‑1 release engine. It also explains why IDENT‑X completes earlier mythic and narrative explorations of identity by providing the missing mechanics behind identity change. This document serves as a public introduction to the field, a companion to the IDENT‑X Compendium, and a standalone explanation for researchers, designers, archivists, and future readers encountering the system for the first time. ## Author’s Note This document marks the completion of the work on Identity Dynamics and its underlying mechanics. IDENT‑X provides the full structure needed to understand how identity carries, contradicts, projects, and releases the things that shape a person over time. With the field defined, the engine formalised, and the visual model demonstrated, there are no deeper layers left to uncover within this system. Future additions are optional extensions, not missing pieces. The core framework is finished and stands as a complete, self‑contained field. -Matt Keywords: identity dynamics; structured release; identity architecture; BEQUEST‑1; Carlo Loop; STAE‑1; FORESIGHT‑1; non‑possession; provenance; consent; computational identity; narrative engines; identity physics; release mechanics; legacy systems Contact: [email protected]
