The genome sequence of Solanum nigrum L., 1753 (Solanales: Solanaceae)

Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: We present a genome assembly of Solanum nigrum (Black Nightshade; Streptophyta; Magnoliopsida; Solanales; Solanaceae). The assembly consists of two haplotypes with total lengths of 2 975.02 megabases and 2 885.42 megabases. Most of haplotype 1 (99.08%) is scaffolded into 36 chromosomal pseudomolecules. Haplotype 2 was assembled to scaffold level. The mitochondrial sequence has a length of 464.27 kilobases and the plastid genome assembly has a length of 155.43 kilobases. Gene annotation of this assembly on Ensembl identified 23 722 protein-coding genes. This assembly was generated as part of the Darwin Tree of Life project, which produces reference genomes for eukaryotic species found in Britain and Ireland.
