Population Attributable Fraction of SARS-CoV-2 for Pulmonary Embolism Hospitalization in Southern Ontario, Canada

Year: 2026
Type: other
Abstract: This repository contains R code implementing Distributed Lag Non-Linear Models (DLNMs) with counterfactual (null-exposure) modeling to estimate the population attributable fraction of SARS-CoV-2 for pulmonary embolism hospitalizations. Subgroup analyses were conducted by pre-Omicron/Omicron period, vaccination period, age, and sex, with formal tests of heterogeneity across these strata. Data Sources Pulmonary Embolism Case Counts: Administrative health data were accessed within the CIHI Secure Access Environment and cannot be shared publicly. Respiratory Virus Surveillance Data: SARS-CoV-2 data are publicly available from the Public Health Agency of Canada's Respiratory Virus Detection Surveillance System (RVDSS). Population Denominators: Population data were obtained from Statistics Canada Table 17-10-0009-01.
