Abstract: Heterochaete nigerrima Viégas, Bragantia 5: 240, 1945 = Tremellochaete nigerrima (Viégas) Spirin & Malysheva, Fungal Biology 121: 714, 2017. Holotype. Brazil • São Paulo: Campinas, Arraial dos Souzas, 22 Sep 1935, Krug 1157 (NY 00738346 – isotype, studied). This species shows a great similarity to Exidia japonica, the generic type of Tremellochaete, and it was therefore combined in that genus (Malysheva and Spirin 2017). No sequences of H. nigerrima have been available so far. Considering the existence of several competing names for Tremellochaete spp. from the tropics, we refrain from recombining H. nigerrima in Exidia until the species is connected to newly collected material and DNA data.
