Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: The objective of this article is to explore the role of speech acts in G. Yakhina's novel “Zuleikha”, as well as their impact on the formation of identity and the expression of the protagonist's social conflicts. The study employs speech act analysis, which enables a deeper understanding of how language is used as a tool for self-expression and resistance to oppression. The primary findings demonstrate that Zuleikha's speech acts play a pivotal role in her struggle for rights and freedom, aiding in the construction of her individuality and creating a discursive space for interaction with other characters. It has been established that the use of metaphors and interrogative forms in Zuleikha's speech not only conveys emotional intensity but also serves as a mechanism for overcoming social barriers. Moreover, speech acts contribute to the formation of community and solidarity among women, allowing them to unite in their resistance against patriarchal structures. The study reveals that language becomes not merely a means of communication but a tool for transforming social consciousness, as evidenced by instances in the text where Zuleikha's speech acts affect how she is perceived by those around her. In conclusion, the study emphasises that literature can function as a vital medium for engaging with gender and social issues and can contribute to a more nuanced understanding of women's struggle for equality and justice. The findings are of practical significance for literary criticism and feminist theory, as they may inform the development of new approaches to the analysis of female characters in literature. The research enables a deeper comprehension of how speech acts can serve as instruments for articulating female identity and resisting oppression. This knowledge can be applied both in academic contexts and in educational programmes focused on gender studies. Furthermore, the results may inform the development of methodological recommendations for analysing similar literary works that address feminist themes and social conflicts.
