Hypothesis and Experimental Proposal for Evaluating the Modification of the Interfacial and Colloidal State of Asphaltenes from Caribbean Heavy Crudes via Microbial Metabolites with Interfacial Activity
Year: 2026
Type: preprint
Abstract: Technical Communication presenting a falsifiable experimental framework investigating whether reference microbial biosurfactants (surfactin and rhamnolipids) can induce measurable interfacial and colloidal modifications in asphaltenes from Caribbean karst-carbonate heavy oils. The manuscript provides a complete laboratory framework, including a graphical abstract, experimental design, knowledge-gap analysis, statistical approach, controls, expected limitations and explicit falsification criteria. This work is intended as an open invitation for experimental collaboration and independent laboratory validation by researchers in petroleum engineering, colloid and interface science, environmental microbiology and petroleum geochemistry. It does not present an industrial technology or validated process.
