Mycoplasma pneumoniae and Ureaplasma Infection in Children Requiring Mechanical Ventilation: a Multicentre Study Investigating Clinical Outcome
Year: 2026
Type: conference-abstract
Abstract: Mycoplasma pneumoniae accounts for up to 40% of the total number of community-acquired pneumonias (CAP) in children and up to 20% of the pediatric CAP requiring hospitalization. M. pneumoniae infection has a wide range of clinical manifestations from asymptomatic to severe pneumonia requiring ICU admission. Despite the high prevalence of M. pneumoniae infections in children, reports on severe life-threatening pneumonia caused by M. pneumoniae in children are limited in the U.S. We identified 8 children with diverse microbiome by 16S rRNA gene based PCR test and RNA-sequencing to evaluate the clinical outcome of severely ill children with M. pneumoniae infection.
