Beyond survival: Advancing symptom science across the adolescent and young adult cancer continuum
Year: 2026
Type: editorial
Abstract: More than 1.3 million people aged 15–39 years were diagnosed with cancer worldwide in 2022.1 In the United States, 5-year relative survival exceeds 80% for many cancers diagnosed during adolescence and young adulthood.2 In this Editorial, the term “survivors of adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer” refers broadly to people diagnosed with cancer between 15 and 39 years of age, including those receiving active treatment and those who have completed treatment. These individuals continue to experience physical and psychosocial challenges that differ from those encountered by children and older adults with cancer.
