Embolization of a fluoropolymer-coated left atrial appendage occlusion device to the infrarenal aorta presenting with acute neurologic symptoms: A case report

Year: 2026
Type: article
Study design: Case Report
Abstract: Transcatheter left atrial appendage occlusion is now widely performed in the United States using two FDA-approved device platforms: the WATCHMAN series and the Amplatzer Amulet.1–6 Although procedural success rates are high, device-related complications remain recognized risks. Pericardial effusion represents the most common serious procedural complication, while device embolization occurs in approximately 0.2–0.7% of cases and is typically related to malpositioning, suboptimal sizing, or unfavorable appendage anatomy.
