Percutaneous endomyocardial ablation as a septal reduction strategy in symptomatic obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy: A 20-year single-center observational experience

Abstract: Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a genetic myocardial disorder characterized by unexplained left ventricular hypertrophy and a prevalence of approximately 1:500 in the general population.1,2 Dynamic left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT) obstruction occurs in up to 70% of patients under resting or provoked conditions.3 Obstruction is multifactorial and results from septal hypertrophy, altered mitral valve geometry, and systolic anterior motion of the mitral valve.3,4 Although systolic anterior motion contributes to obstruction, it is not invariably the sole mechanism.
