Abstract: Drug abuse has become a serious social and legal problem at the global level in contemporary times. The increasing production, trafficking, and consumption of narcotic and psychotropic substances have adversely affected society, public health systems, and legal institutions. To control this growing menace, several countries have enacted stringent laws. Drug abuse has severe and long-term consequences for individuals, families, society, and the nation. When a person becomes addicted to narcotic substances, his or her physical and mental health deteriorates.
