“¿Dónde estoy?”. Adolescentes africanos migrantes en México
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: Based on personal testimonies and ethnographic research conducted with African adolescents and government officials in Mexico City, this article reflects on the growing number of African migrants arriving in Mexico and on changes in migration policies in the country and the broader region. Long a transit country for those hoping to reach the United States, Mexico is rapidly becoming a place of permanent residence as a result of the Trump administration’s changing policies and the tightening of European borders. The article examines migration trends among Africans who have traveled through Mexico over the past decade and considers what their increased permanence in the country may mean for the local society, as well as how the government has managed and will continue to manage this process.
