Algorithmic Uncertainty Law: The Impossibility of Engineered Virality

Year: 2026
Type: preprint
Abstract: This paper introduces the Algorithmic Uncertainty Law, He Yi's critical proposition that viral cultural production ("爆款") cannot be algorithmically engineered with certainty. While platforms and creators deploy ever-more-sophisticated data analytics to predict and manufacture virality, He Yi argues that the moment of cultural explosion contains an irreducible element of unpredictability—precisely because it depends on the complex, non-linear interaction of human attention, emotional contagion, and contextual contingency that no algorithm can fully model. The law has immediate implications for content strategy, platform governance, and creative methodology.
