Abstract: We prove existence and non-existence results for $L^2$ eigenforms for the Hodge Laplacian on complete non-compact Ricci flat manifolds with special holonomy, with a particular focus on gravitational instantons. We briefly describe the physical interpretation of these results in superstring and M-theory.
