Near-field quantum sensing with Rydberg atom vapors

Abstract: We present the results of spectroscopic experiments probing Rydberg atomic vapors confined at the nanoscale. Our measurements are sensitive to the fundamental Casimir-Polder interaction between Rydberg atoms and the dielectric windows of the vapor cell. We also demonstrate that these experiments provide quantitative information on the distribution of parasitic charges trapped on the cell-window surfaces.
