Physical activity across work and leisure for dementia prevention
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: Randomised trials have shown that physical activity offers substantial health benefits (eg, preventing type 2 diabetes and falls and improving outcomes after myocardial infarction). Whether these benefits extend to dementia remains uncertain. Dementia has a preclinical phase that can last for decades, making prevention trials particularly challenging. Over such long periods, declining adherence in treatment groups and increasing physical activity in control participants reduce between-group differences and dilute treatment effects.
