Data for β-alanine betaine and nAChRs in Ascaris
Year: 2026
Type: dataset
Abstract: This dataset contains raw calcium-imaging data from Ascaris suum intestine, electrophysiological recordings from muscle preparations, and C. elegans motility time-course data used to generate Figures 5–7 in the associated paper publication. Files: Excel (.xlsx) and CSV (.csv) tables with calcium responses, region counts, depolarization amplitudes, spike frequencies, and motility/paralysis assays. Methods: Fluo‑3AM imaging, perfusion/application protocols, intracellular recordings, and motility scoring.Analysis: Data processed in GraphPad Prism 9.0; results reported as mean ± SEM; statistical comparisons by t-tests.The purpose of the experiments was to identify chemical messengers in a representative nematode parasite, Ascaris suum, and subsequently identify novel receptors for the development of new antiparasitic drugs (anthelmintics). We found a novel chemical messenger β‑alanine betaine suggesting that different acetylcholine receptors (ACR-23) could be novel and useful drug target sites.
