The Imperative of Reproductive Choice: Reproductive Choice as Perfect Duty in a Kantian Moral Framework
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: This essay builds a deontological architecture for reproductive choice as a sovereign, natural right grounded in Kant’s metaphysical framework of morality without presupposing fetal personhood. It argues that reproductive choice constitutes a categorical imperative derived from the conditions of rational agency, and therefore rises to the level of a perfect duty properly situated within Officia Juris. It further argues that Kant’s framework provides a comprehensive moral consideration of why a fetus does not qualify as a rational being, and, that the right to abortion is, on that basis, axiomatic.
