Talking Through (Anti)Colonialism: A Critical Multiethnography of Teachers of Colonial Languages
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: In this project, we reflect on what it means to strive toward anticolonialism while simultaneously teaching and researching colonial languages in a settler colonial state. In an effort to embrace anticolonial methods, we engaged in a critical multiethnography, employing conversation as both process and product of our collaborative reflection. Multiethnography disrupts conventional methods, blurring lines between researcher and participant and method and data. Key findings include how we perpetuated and disrupted colonialism and barriers we faced to our anticolonial praxis. We conclude that critical multiethnography offers an insightful method for personal and professional transformation toward anticolonialism.
