The EDeM Family

Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: This working paper presents the EDeM (Easily Detected Markers) family as a modular physical-digital reference architecture for navigation, contextual interpretation, and operational guidance. EDeM uses physically anchored, machine-readable reference points—based on optical, passive radio-frequency, or passive hybrid identification—to provide explicit local reference events that digital systems can detect, validate, and connect to maintained location and context data. The paper defines the common EDeM reference core, its relationship to associated application and interface modules, candidate use cases, operating principles, validation metrics, failure constraints, security and privacy considerations, and the boundary of the public disclosure. Potential application areas include indoor and covered navigation, temporary environments, smart-city mobility, industrial and protected flows, and airport-ground research. EDeM is presented as an early-stage conceptual architecture, not as a certified navigation product or a replacement for GNSS, computer vision, SLAM, RFID, UWB, or other established systems. Implementation-specific details—including marker coding, antenna geometry, reader thresholds, fusion rules, registry security design, and deployment geometry—are intentionally excluded from this public version.
