Synergy and Sequential Therapy: Pathway Optimization of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine for Cervical Spondylosis
Year: 2026
Type: article
Although the integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine approach has been widely applied in the treatment of cervical spondylosis, the concurrent use of multiple therapies without a phased and progressive strategy remains a common issue in clinical practice. This article systematically reviews the differences and complementarity between the two medical systems regarding the pathogenesis of cervical spondylosis, and proposes that “combination of disease and syndrome” is the underlying logic of synergistic enhancement, while “stepwise progression” is the core methodological feature of sequential therapy. Based on this, a five-step sequential treatment pathway for integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine was constructed, with clear definitions of intervention indications, treatment plans, and escalation or de-escalation nodes for each step. Furthermore, the key bottlenecks in the transition from “synergy” to “sequential therapy” were analyzed, including the evaluation system, evidence-based support, pathway design, and personnel training. It is concluded that constructing an operable sequential therapy clinical pathway is the key to achieving the transition of integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine treatment for cervical spondylosis from “simple method superposition” to “precise progression.”
