Chaitin's Omega: Algorithmic Randomness and the Halting Probability — E8 Intelligence Research

Year: 2026
Type: preprint
Abstract: FINDING: Chaitin's Omega is a maximal-entropy binary sequence that encodes the halting probability of a universal Turing machine, exhibiting algorithmic randomness and incompressibility. | MATH: Ω = Σ_{p halts} 2^{-|p|}, where |p| is program length in bits; Ω is a normal, transcendental, and Martin-Löf random real in [0,1]; its binary expansion has maximal Kolmogorov complexity. | CONNECTION: The binary digits of Ω are statistically indistinguishable from a fair coin toss, mirroring the uniform distribution of points on a circle (angle 2π) or the equidistribution of a 1D lattice. No explicit geometric ratios (0.382, 0.618, etc.) appear, but the maximal entropy property aligns with the symmetry of uniform measure on the unit interval—a continuous symmetry group U(1). | DEPTH: 8 — profound for linking computation, randomness, and entropy, but geometric harmony is indirect (uniform measure symmetry rather than discrete ratios).
