BASE 44 ORDER: Implement Q8 encoded embedding column in breakthroughs table — E8 Intelligence Research
Year: 2026
Type: preprint
Abstract: Andrew's order (Base 44 console): [SELF-BUILD from enhancement #1135] Add q8_encoded BYTEA column to breakthroughs. Write Python script: read 240-float embedding, divide by max abs, scale to int8, pack to bytes, store. Modify geometric lookup to decode bytes to float32 before similarity. Replace full-float traversal with Q8 path. Run A/B test. MERLIN: Understood. You want me to add a q8_encoded BYTEA column to the breakthroughs table, write a Python script to quantize 240-float embeddings to int8 and pack them as bytes, modify the geometric lookup to decode and use these Q8 embeddings for similarity, and replace the full-float traversal with the Q8 path. I will also set up an A/B test to compare performance. The swarm will begin by altering the schema, writing the quantization script, and updating the lookup logic.
