From the perspective of translation aesthetics, reception theory provides a dynamic analytical framework for the research on aesthetic deformation of literary images. Originating from reception aesthetics, this theory highlights readers’ initiative in meaning construction and holds that the value of translation hinges on the reception effect among target-language readers. Its core lies in the interaction between “horizon of expectations” and “aesthetic distance”: a moderate distance can stimulate readers’ interpretive interest, while an excessive one will give rise to comprehension barriers. In translation practice, the selection of translation strategies should balance linguistic accuracy and cultural adaptability. For culture-specific items, the strategy of “foreignization plus compensation” ought to be adopted to conform to readers’ cognitive patterns. Methodologically, a three-dimensional framework of “text-reader-context” can be established. By analyzing the aesthetic dimensions of images, the cultural cognition of target groups and social contexts, translators are able to guide and adjust translation strategies accordingly.
