Objective: To optimize the application of Problem‑Chain Teaching methodology in nursing education by establishing a systematic new paradigm that spans the entire curriculum, thereby contributing to the improvement of nursing talent development quality. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted to systematically review relevant Chinese literature, summarize the current application status of Problem‑Chain Teaching in China’s medical higher education, and identify existing deficiencies regarding disciplinary distribution, clinical relevance, and the systematic nature of its application. Results: Based on the developmental characteristics of the nursing discipline and the requirements specified in the Outline of the “Healthy China 2030” Plan, and the emerging trends of Outcome‑Based Education and smart nursing, systematic optimization strategies for Problem‑Chain Teaching were proposed across four dimensions: goal orientation, implementation model, evaluation system, and guarantee mechanism. Conclusions: The proposed strategies form a competency‑ centered teaching paradigm that integrates the entire nursing curriculum. By fostering learning through questioning and ensuring standard achievement via competency‑based assessment, these strategies address key implementation bottlenecks, offering both theoretical foundations and practical pathways for advancing nursing teaching reform and strengthening the clinical competence of nursing professionals.
