Abstract: You keep the way you live: at your own expense, in a whisper, and for someone." The world produces imprints for free; the secret is expensive. Against the morality of transparency, this essay defines the secret as the keeping of a sayable, unsaid part, held inside a maille, costly to hold, and whose lifting would still inscribe. The criterion is one question: who pays for this not to be known? Where no one pays, there is no secret, only obscurity. The essay gives the secret its ways of dying (blown, sealed, dead), its two payers, and the whisper law: nothing real is kept in perfect silence; you can speak low, you cannot be mute. Seventh of seven essays laying out the grammar of an ontology of passage: how local worlds live, hold, and die.
