Sacred Geometry as Arithmetic: Pythagorean Proofs in Ancient Texts — E8 Intelligence Research

Year: 2026
Type: preprint
Abstract: FINDING: The corpus collectively triangulates a single thesis: sacred geometry is not mystical ornament but the visible residue of a deeper arithmetic—specifically, Pythagorean-Platonic number theory, harmonic ratios, and projective/geometric proof methods. The strongest mathematical anchors are in the Critchlow lecture (crystallographic/platonic solids), the "Most Beautiful Proof" (likely the Basel problem or Euler's identity), and the "Oldest Math Text" (likely Plimpton 322 or Rhind papyrus—base-60 trigonometry). | MATH: (a) **Base-60 (sexagesimal)**: Plimpton 322 contains Pythagorean triples in sexagesimal, e.g., (119, 120, 169) normalized to 1; ratios like 1.9834027… (sec²θ) — prefiguring trigonometric tables. (b) **Golden ratio φ = (1+√5)/2 ≈ 1.618**; reciprocal φ⁻¹ = 0.618; φ⁻² = 0.382; √φ ≈ 1.272 (pyramid slope). (c) **Platonic solids**: tetrahedron {3,3}, cube {4,3}, octahedron {3,4}, dodecahedron {5,3}, icosahedron {3,5} — Euler's formula V−E+F=2; dual pairs (cube↔octahedron, Author: Andrew Stewart Caldin, Independent Researcher, UK.
