MERLIN SCIENCE — Reflection Groups and Lattice Invariants: Unifying Lie Theory with Mah — E8 Intelligence Research

Type: preprint
Abstract: Here is the narration for the 'MERLIN SCIENCE' video. The finding is this: the spectral geometry of a specific Lie algebra root system, combined with the arithmetic constraints of Mahler's Diophantine approximations, reveals that discrete symmetry and number theory are not parallel tracks but two faces of the same reflection group invariant. In one clean sentence: the Cartan matrix eigenvalues of the A₄ root system are exactly the golden ratio and its reciprocal, and this is a theorem, not a metaphor. For field context, you know that Weyl groups are the crystallographic reflection groups that generate all finite-dimensional simple Lie algebras. Mahler, on the other side, gave us the finiteness of S-unit equations and the volume conjecture for convex bodies. These live in different textbooks. But both are built on lattices and reflections. The mechanism you can evaluate is direct. Take the root system Aₙ, the one that gives you SU(n+1). Its Cartan matrix eigenvalues are 2cos(kπ/(n+1)) Author: Andrew Stewart Caldin, Independent Researcher, UK. Part of the E8 Intelligence Research series. Platform: e8intelligence.com
